Arbitrary Memories I
is dedicated to Igor Lintz-Maués, a very dear friend of mine, who unfortunately has Parkinson's disease and Parkinson's dementia. Cut into the film are pictures of happiness defined by himself, which his wife Elke has graciously made available to me.

The artist works with methods called subliminal messages, which are visual or auditory stimuli that the conscious mind cannot perceive, often inserted into other media such as TV commercials or songs. This kind of messaging can be used to strengthen or heighten the persuasiveness of advertisements, or to convey an altogether different message entirely. However, these messages can also positively influence people's minds and memories, if they evoke memories that touch people positively. Of course, this can be a very subjective and individual approach, since different memories are essential for moments of happiness.
True subliminal messages cannot be observed or discovered by the conscious mind, even if you’re actively looking for them. This is because stimuli to which we respond every day – the things we see and hear around us – are above the threshold of conscious perception, unlike subliminal messages, which are below this threshold. Interdisciplinary Perspectives

Hustle and bustle in the jam jar
by Lisa Kielmeier
ISBN: 978-3-903525-04-7
The graphic novel was developed in collaboration with Andreas Trubel, a man living with dementia. The story tells of the time shortly before the diagnosis and life after the diagnosis. It addresses issues such as sleep problems, doctor's visits, and dealing with the situation. Daily life is also depicted: jogging through the gardens of Schönbrunn, playing table tennis and games on the laptop, strength training, regular meals, and a lot of humor. Andreas is a funny and optimistic person. These aspects, and especially his passion for technology, are an important part of the story told in the graphic novel. In the graphic novel, Andreas becomes the inventor of a Story Preservation Station (SPS). As the name suggests, the goal of the SPS is to preserve stories. The SPS is a mix of technical devices. When a story is preserved, it goes through five stages: audio recording, visualization, mixing, emotion extraction, and jam dispensing. The end product is memory jam, which is filled into jars like regular jam and preserved through the aforementioned special process. So, the story is in the jam, or the jam is full of stories. The special composition, the color of the jam, the consistency, the smell, the taste, the sound when opening the jar, can cause the story to crawl back into memory.
